People Counter

Also called: footfall counter, foot traffic counter, visitor counter, customer counter sensor, people counting sensor

A people counter is a sensor that counts how many people pass through an entrance, so traffic can be compared with sales, staffing, cleaning and feedback. It is also called a footfall counter or foot traffic counter.

What visitor counts are used for

  • Fair comparisons - complaints per 1,000 visitors instead of raw complaint counts.
  • Staffing - match people to real traffic by hour and day.
  • Usage-based cleaning - clean after a set number of visitors.
  • Reading feedback in context - see whether scores drop when it gets busy.

People counters from Press'nXPress

The Press'nXPress People Counter counts visitors anonymously, with no cameras or images, runs on battery and reports into the same dashboard as feedback - so traffic and satisfaction are read side by side, in retail, airports, offices and restrooms.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does a people counter work?

A sensor above or beside an entrance detects people passing through and counts them in each direction. Counts are sent to a dashboard by the hour, day and location.

Are people counters anonymous?

Many are. Beam and thermal sensors count bodies without recording images or identities. Camera-based counters can be anonymous too, but need more care with privacy.

What can you do with visitor counts besides counting?

Compare locations fairly (complaints per 1,000 visitors), staff to real traffic, trigger cleaning after a set number of visitors, and see whether feedback scores drop when it gets busy.
