Employee Net Promoter Score (eNPS)

Also called: eNPS, employee NPS

Employee Net Promoter Score (eNPS) measures how likely employees are to recommend their organization as a place to work. It uses the same 0-10 question and formula as customer NPS.

The eNPS formula

eNPS = % promoters (9-10) − % detractors (0-6)

Scores range from −100 to +100. The trend and the gap between teams or sites matter more than any single number.

Running eNPS with frontline teams

Most eNPS programs are built for office staff and sent by email. Store, hotel, plant, warehouse and cleaning teams are often left out. To hear from them:

  • Make it anonymous - no login and no name.
  • Make it quick - one question and an optional reason.
  • Put it where they are - a kiosk in the break room, a QR code at the time clock, or an SMS.

How to act on eNPS

  1. Ask a follow-up about the reason: workload, scheduling, manager, tools, pay.
  2. Compare by site and shift to find where engagement drops.
  3. Share results and actions with the team, so they see their input matters.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you calculate eNPS?

Ask employees how likely they are to recommend the organization as a place to work on a 0-10 scale. eNPS is the percentage of promoters (9-10) minus the percentage of detractors (0-6).

How often should you run eNPS?

Quarterly is common for a full survey, but short pulse questions can run monthly or even weekly, especially for frontline teams whose experience changes quickly with shifts and staffing.

How do you get frontline employees to answer?

Make it anonymous and quick, and put it where they are: a kiosk in the break room, a QR code at the time clock or an SMS. Email surveys rarely reach staff who don't sit at a desk.
